Smoke Alert for the northern part of the DAMPIER PENINSULA in the SHIRE OF BROOME
A Smoke Alert has been issued for people travelling along Kooljaman Access Road and surrounding areas in DAMPIER PENINSULA in the SHIRE OF BROOME.
The smoke is the result of prescribed burning being carried out by the Bardi Jawi rangers in the area.
The smoke is expected to clear over the coming days.
WHAT TO DO
- Shut doors and windows and turn off air-conditioners.
- If driving through the area, turn on headlights and drive slowly. If you cannot see clearly, pull over to the left, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears.
- People with asthma and pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular illnesses should follow their pre-prepared treatment plan.
- If affected by smoke contact your doctor or call 1800MEDICARE (1800 633 422).
- Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions.

Roads have not been closed.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully. Road information may also be available from Main Roads WA by visiting the Main Roads Travel Map, calling 138 138 or by contacting your Local Government Authority.
