Storm Advice - MONITOR CONDITIONS - parts of GREAT SOUTHERN
A Storm Advice is current for parts of the GREAT SOUTHERN.
You need to act now and stay safe with severe weather forecast including damaging wind gusts expected this afternoon and evening.
Locations which may be affected include Albany, the Stirling Ranges, Esperance, Bremer Bay and Hopetoun.
WHAT TO DO
Pack away, secure or tie down outdoor furniture, trampolines and other loose items around your home that could be picked up and thrown by strong winds.
Prepare an emergency kit with a radio that runs off batteries, a torch, spare batteries and a first aid kit.
Review your plan and make sure everyone in your household knows what to do. If you do not have a plan, make one now on Emergency WA or in the Emergency WA app.
STORM DETAILS
At 9:30 am on Saturday 8 August 2026 the Bureau of Meteorology advised an increased southwesterly airstream is expected along the south coast this afternoon and evening behind a cold front which is crossing southern parts of the state today.
Damaging wind gusts of around 90 km/h are possible near Albany and inland to the Stirling and Porongurup Ranges on Saturday afternoon, shifting towards Esperance by early Saturday evening. The strongest gusts are expected to occur with showers and thunderstorms.
Conditions are forecast to ease below warning thresholds by late Saturday evening.
ROAD CLOSURES AND CONDITIONS
Roads have not been closed.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully. Road information may also be available from Main Roads WA by visiting the Main Roads Travel Map, calling 138 138 or by contacting your Local Government Authority.
